Background:

The school was founded in 1917 as a girls' grammar school. It was based in the old building. This building now houses the English and mathematics faculties and teaching areas for business, technology, dance, personal and social education and learning support. It also houses four information and communication technology network rooms and step by step the schools' inclusion centre. The building now contains teaching areas for languages, the performing arts, humanities, science, technology and the visual arts room. The learning centre and learning resources block, the physical education building which includes three large gymnasia and the performing arts studio are all separate buildings within the landscaped ground. At Key Stage 3 the school aims to give each student a firm foundation in all subject areas, while keeping the flexibility to recognise individual differences and talents. At Key Stage 4 students follow a balanced course, which has been carefully discussed with students and parents before choices have been finalised. The school has a wide range of extra-curricular activities include: trampolining, gymnastics, netball, football, drama, dance, languages, information and communication technology (ICT) and mathematics. The school aims to maintain an orderly learning environment in which students can be praised and feel proud of their achievements.
