Background:

The school is a one form entry school with 318 pupils aged between three and 11 years on roll. There is one nursery class for three and four year's olds, some attending part-time, in the morning or afternoon, and some attending school full-time. In reception (four to five years old) there are two classes with a total of 45 children. Key Stage 1 has three classes for children aged six to seven, each class having 30 children. In Key Stage 2 there are currently five classes, which will increase to six in September 2003. As the school admits a maximum of 45 in each year group, and class size is 30, some of its classes are made up of mixed age groups. The school is situated on Wellington Way, near to Bow road. The school was built in the late 1920s. In the next two years a building and refurbishment programme is planned, to develop its learning spaces and create an attractive environment for the children.
