Background:

Woolmore is a one-form entry primary school with a nursery class, maintained by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The school was built in the late 1890s and named after John Woolmore, who was director of the East India Dock Company. Part of the original building was destroyed during the Blitz in the II World War. In the 1950s it was refurbished as a primary school. Woolmore is situated in a vibrant inner-city area beside the entrance to the Black Wall Tunnel, a stone's throw from the exciting developments of Canary Wharf and Docklands and across the river from historic Greenwich. The school is proud of the multi-cultural nature of its school. The children in the school speak a range of different languages. The school put a lot of effort into understanding, respecting and learning from the range of cultures and religions present at Woolmore. The large Victorian two-storey building provides the school with generous learning space, which also has an extensive playground. The school tries very hard to ensure that its learning environment, inside and out, is safe, attractive, interesting and cared for.
