Background:

Tom Hood is a secondary co-educational comprehensive school situated in the south of the London Borough of Waltham Forest, close to the edge of Newham. It is six-form entry and over-subscribed in all year groups. The school is proud of and value the diversity of languages, cultures and ethnic groups in the school. Its English as an additional language (EAL) department provides a well-planned and structured programme for bilingual beginners. The school is housed in attractive buildings on a well-maintained and spacious site. Facilities include; seven science laboratories, a refurbished music area; a technology area housing food technology, design technology, textiles and art; a large sports hall and gymnasium; all weather pitches and tennis courts; a drama studio; excellent information technology facilities with 175 computers situated in a modern suite of specialist rooms, and in other areas around the school, a fully equipped learning resource centre ' containing a large modern book stock, internet access, journals and magazine. The extra-curricular activities include: football, dance, aerobics, netball, volleyball and table tennis. The music department runs many extra-curricular activities including choir, orchestra, drum tuition and steel band. The central aim of the school is to provide a quality learning experience for all of its pupils. This can be broken down into four key areas: learning, achievement, responsibility and partnership.
