Background:

Abbey Primary School is a community school for boys and girls aged five to 11 years. It also has a nursery class which offers part-time education to children aged three to four years. The school is housed in one large building. It is lucky enough to have an acre of grounds, providing excellent sports and games facilities. There are separate playgrounds for the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children. It has recently developed its Key Stage 2 playground, providing football and basketball area, an adventure trail and a quiet area. It also has two internal quadrangle garden areas, one which has recently been developed into a sensory garden. Information and communication technology is a priority for Abbey Primary School. It therefore invested in 22 flat screen computers in its newly refurbished ICT suite. Its nursery class gives an excellent start to a child's education. It provides spacious accommodation in one large room, with toilet facilities attached and a covered play area backing onto its playing field. The room is bright and exciting. All classrooms provide stimulating environment for the children. The school has a gym located on the ground floor and a hall upstairs. Both are used for physical education, music, drama and assemblies. The staff supervises various extra-curricular activities throughout the year which include: art, athletics, basketball, choir, cricket, drama, football, homework, netball, recorders, science and tag rugby. The school aims to provide a safe and caring environment.
