Background:
Christ Church was founded in 1840 by parishioners of Christ Church. It is situated on three sites in 'leafy' Chelsea in 'cramped but distinguished' Victorian buildings with a 'large' playground and an environmental area on the third site. Half the school's population comes from the local area, the remainder from Wandsworth and neighbouring boroughs. It has strong links with the church, local community groups and charitable organisations, is involved in the Chelsea Festival and takes part in inter-school sporting competitions and swimming galas. In the light of 'continued excellence and academic achievement', this 'high achieving' school was nominated by the DfEE for Beacon status in July 1999. The school describes itself as 'very well managed with outstanding teachers and support staff'.
