Background:
The school is housed in a three-decker building which dates from the turn of the century. Its 'grim' appearance is in contrast to the interior, which is in the throes of a refurbishment due to be completed in 2002. Comber Grove tries to give children a broad grounding in every important basis subject, with a wide variety of added activities and interests. Subjects taught closely follow the National Curriculum and in addition to these, the school offers musical activities including guitar, violin, recorder, percussion and brass instruments, helped by specialist music teachers. This is 'one of the few' primary schools where every class, including the under-fives, has a computer. Every child is given the opportunity to develop his or her physical skills in an 'enjoyable and varied' way - the school has a wide variety of gymnastic equipment and encourages every junior school child to participate in regular swimming periods at the local baths. Extra curricular activities include a book club, fairs, music and poetry weeks, exhibitions of work, a film club, school journeys and an annual fund raiser. A summer show is the highlight of the summer term and every child in the school takes part in the annual Christmas concert.
