Background:

The school aims for the highest possible standards in every child's learning, and in their personal and social development. It teaches a broad and balanced curriculum, offering enrichment through the arts, whilst a strong focus on literacy and numeracy. It has a suite housing 16 computers where whole classes participate in ICT lessons. Religious education is taught through Lewisham agreed syllabus, and children learn about religious beliefs and moral values, studying Christianity and other major world faiths. There is a daily act of collective worship. In art, children experience a wide range of media and materials and learn to use these expressively. In music, children sing, perform and compose. Children have the opportunity to play and learn a wide variety of instruments such as trumpet, trombone, cello, violin, recorder and guitar. Children in Year 3 and 4 attend swimming lessons for two terms. A residential week for Year 6 children includes outdoor adventure activities. The school places great emphasis on personal, social and health education. Dalmain home school association is currently fundraising and has developed a playground project, which is an exciting scheme at improving the quality of the children's school life. It offers extra-curricular activities, which include football, gym, ICT, maths board games, dance, French, recorders and art. The school aims to keep the child at the centre of learning, developing their skills for adult life and nurturing each towards achieving their full potential.
