Background:

Built in 1938, Dog Kennel Hill School benefits from 'large' grounds with a nature trail and pond. These provide a 'valuable resource' for hands-on teaching. The Parents' and Friends' Association raise funds at varied events, such as the summer and Christmas fairs, and strengthen the relationship between the school and home communities. Dog Kennel Hill puts a strong emphasis on the role of music, drama and art as a central part the curriculum. They are regarded as a valuable opportunity to bring enjoyment and self-confidence and to aid with the social development of all pupils, regardless of their attainment in other areas of the curriculum. As a result of the school's arts policy and the commitment of staff and pupils, Dog Kennel Primary's pupils have played steel pans at the Royal Festival Hall, taken part in the National Theatre production of the Pied Piper, acted in the Merchant of Venice and Julius Caesar at the Globe Theatre and taken part in the London International Festival of Theatre. In addition, the school has invited guests to run workshops with the children on painting, dance, Djembe drumming, puppeteering and African art.
