Background:
Fitzjohn's Primary School was established in 1954 when it took over the 1850 school building. The school curriculum develops enjoyment of learning. The school library is central to supporting this. It plays a key role in helping the pupils become independent learners through developing their information-handling skills. High standards of achievement in music have been an important aspect of the school's life for many years. All classes have regular music lessons and these may involve class instrument or singing lessons. The school belongs to the Camden schools sports association and competes with other schools in football, netball, athletics and swimming. Extra sporting tuition, particularly netball and football, is offered regularly by the class teachers. Fitzjohn's values the individual abilities of each child and treats all people with courtesy, fairness, kindness, respect and thoughtfulness. It encourages and support children to have open and enquiring minds, to work towards high standards, to use initiative and to develop self-motivation.
