Background:

In the suburbs of western Enfield, built in 1952 as separate infant and junior schools; bordered on three sides by playing fields and Enfield golf course. The building is single-storey with lightweight classrooms opening on to grass areas. The junior and infant departments amalgamated in 1987. The school has a suite of networked computers. All classes are timetabled for a weekly ICT lesson. There are additional computers in each of the classrooms. Aims to enable all children to explore and experience a wide variety of art materials and techniques. Class teacher teaches music in every class. Children develop skills and techniques on listening, composing and performing. Extra-curricular music plays a significant part in the life of the school. Strong emphasis is placed on music, sport, dance and art, with a number of extra-curricular clubs run in these subjects. Parents and grandparents help out in classrooms as well as a number of volunteers from Action Age, a project run by Age Concern. Over-subscribed, with 1.6 applications per place. After-school care, until 6pm. Training school status.
