Background:
Halley School was named after the famous 17th century astronomer Doctor Edmund Halley. In March 1989, the present Halley Primary School opened in temporary accommodation in Smithy Street. Children from Clichy, Ocean and Limehouse Fields Estates all attended the school. In September 1991 the school and 50 per cent of the children moved to the new building. Today Halley has eight classes and caters for 250 children from nursery to Year 6. The staff and governors of the school work hard to provide broad and balanced curriculum which meets the needs of all children. The nursery curriculum is based on learning through play and enquiry. The children are encouraged to explore and discover through stimulating activities experiences. Design technology is one of the foundation subjects in the national curriculum. It is a cross-curriculum area which reinforces links between English, mathematics, science and the arts. The school aims to provide an atmosphere and environment in which children feel safe, confident and motivated to work hard.
