Background:
Hazelwood Junior was built at the turn of the century in a dense residential area. The juniors share the site with the infant school. Shared facilties now include an attractive wildlife garden at the front of the school which was built thanks to to the fundraising efforts of teachers and parents following work with agencies such as Learning Through Landscape. It is a truly multi-cultural school with over half of pupils speaking English as an additional language and over 20 ethnic groups represented. To reflect this, parents' participation in school life includes an invitation to hold story telling in English or another language. The premises are also used to house the Greek School, Turkish School and other community groups. Children wishing to expand their language skills further may attend the French club after-school. The wide range of extra-curricular activities also encompasses different sports and Technokids. The school aims to provide, well-structured currciculum within a disciplined and purposeful framework, fostering social, moral and personal growth and promoting high standards of achievement.
