Opened in 1938, takes its name from Henry VIII's 'unequalled' palace, demolished in 17th century; situated in Cheam village next to Nonsuch Park; pupils travel from Kingston, Epsom, Ewell, Sutton and Banstead areas; set in 22 acres of grounds, a splendid environment for academic study. New wing houses purpose-built technology rooms and art studios; recently-upgraded ICT facilities provide internet access across network and multi-media research facilities in the library; new sixth-form centre, classroom block and refurbished laboratories. New music centre of excellence. Suite of 11 science laboratories; also astronomy dome. David Lloyd Leisure Centre on site provides excellent sports facilities; all-weather pitch. GCSEs in Latin, ancient Greek, and astronomy. School achieved HMCI recognition of success in 1999. Over-subscribed, with five applications per place.
