Background:

The school was established by a group of Rabbonim with just five pupils in 1945. It moved to its present site in the mid-1950s and secured voluntary aided status in 1960. In 1994 the school gained grant-maintained status. Assemblies are held daily and the religious foundation of the school is emphasised. 'Our school is not just a school for Jewish children, but rather a Jewish School with a modern, orthodox Zionist ethos, which pervades all of our multifarious activities.' The facilties at the school include its own swimming pool, computers with appropriate software for each age group, infant and junior libraries. There are links with the local community, and pupils visit homes for the elderly to sing and entertain the residents. Pupils are also proud of their fundraising efforts for charity. The school participates in local football and netball leagues and has won the inter-Jewish Schools Chess League on a number of occasions. Over-subscribed, with four applications per place. DfES achievement award (2003).
