Background:
The Northwood school buildings are all situated on one site with playground area and large playing fields. Information and communication technology (ICT) is an essential part of the curriculum and the school has recently equipped a third information and communication technology room as part of its multimedia network of personal computers with Internet access their work outside lesson times. The school's purpose-built technology block provides facilities for working with all the different materials and has its own computer room, as well as equipment for computer aided design and manufacture. The school has a large assembly hall, with a traditional stage that is the venue for full-scale drama and music. National curriculum subjects are taught in specific timetabled slots, as are drama and personal social and health education. Information and communication technology is taught through other subjects, rather than as separate lesson. The religious education is taught as part of the personal social and health education programme and prepares pupils for the short course GCSE. The school has many extra-curricular activities including athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, cross-country, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby, and soccer, swimming and tennis. The school's pupils always respond generously to charitable requests. The school aims to ensure maximum achievement in an atmosphere which is supportive and rewarding. The school values and encourages achievement in all aspects of development.
