Background:
Originally known as Kingsland RC Primary, Our Lady and St Joseph gained its current name in the 1960s. The school was 'extensively' rebuilt in 1989 with the addition of a nursery and junior building. Included on the grounds is an environmental area with a pond. Pupils are mainly from the boroughs of Hackney and Islington and the catchment area contains a 'socially and ethnically diverse community'. Sporting activities include football, athletics, gymnastics and tennis. The school has links with the MCC to develop cricket and is involved in a partnership with Leyton Orient to develop football. Sport starts in the nursery and continues until the children leave, the school describes itself as 'sports mad'. Two after-school dance clubs are also offered and there is an outside field visit for Year six. The mission of the school is to 'foster the Gospel values of Jesus Christ and provide a high standard of education with equality of opportunity for all'.
