Background:

Parliament Hill School is an 11 to 19 comprehensive school. It provides five dedicated information and communication technology rooms and computers in a significant number of classrooms. There is a modern information resources centre, with library and media resources and a large ICT suite. There are several newly refurbished science laboratories, three technology rooms, several art and design studios, a purpose-built drama space, several dedicated music classrooms, two tennis courts with netball facilities, a separate, newly refurbished sixth-form block with its own suite of classrooms, a common room and a study area. There are recreational grounds which include a sculpture park, created by the students themselves. Many students take part in music making, plays, dance performances, sports and other extra-curricular activities. The science department at Parliament Hill School comprises an establishment of nine teachers, supported by 3 technicians, occupying nine laboratories, serviced through three preparation rooms. Science is a core curriculum area and is taught in mixed ability groups. The sixth form is shared with the adjoining boys' school William Ellis School. A full range of science AS and A2 levels is offered. To promote science as an enjoyable and relevant subject the department offers a wide range of extra-curriculum activities including a weekly science club and science magazine written by the students and published each year.
