Background:
Pratts Bottom Primary School was built in 1885 to serve a largely rural community, but today pupils come from further afield. Most of the school is housed in the original Victorian building and since the 1970s it has also comprised a hall with a kitchen. A larger staff room was more recently added. The adjoining schoolhouse was acquired last year, and the lower floor of this is used as a classroom. Pupils have the use of a large school field next to the school and a playground to the rear. Pratts Bottom is part of a 'small school' cluster group which comprises seven Bromley schools. Children from the schools meet for netball, football, cricket, rounders, a 'Year 6 day' and other events. The school is currently considering the feasibility of a joint school journey. Pratts Bottom is confident that it offers a broad and balanced curriculum to pupils. The benefits of small class sizes means the school can offer more individual teaching according to the individual's needs. There is a selection of extra activities, notably the maths club, recorders and netball. Future developments include a small computer suite and alterations to the playground to create a larger, more stimulating and child friendly environment. Charity fund raising events include Red Nose Day, Jeans for Genes Day and Operation Christmas Child, while the school also celebrates a traditional harvest and sends gifts to the elderly in the village.
