Background:
Rotherhithe Primary is housed in a 1970s building, set in 'relatively generous grounds', adjacent to a park and not far from the River Thames, historic sites and City Farm. A school has been located on this site since 1878. Visits to the South Bank, West End venues and museum and galleries are offered as part of the curriculum. The school benefits from a 'strong and supportive' parent teacher association. Funding has recently been raised for a family room, providing further activities for families and access to training for parents wishing to return to work or develop their own education. A part-time special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator and team of special needs assistants support children where necessary. Good links have been established with visiting therapists and medical professionals and where possible, pupils with SEN are taught in mainstream classes. Two applications are received per place for entry into the reception class. After-school care is available on site until 5.45pm daily.
