Background:
Founded as a charity school in 1710, this is now the only Church of England secondary school in the Chelmsford diocese. St Edward's has 'excellent' physical education, music and sporting facilities and a 'full range' of extra-curricular activities. Its 'strong' drama tradition includes four productions at the Edinburgh Fringe and it offers a 'full' programme of foreign exchanges. Facilities include 'extensive' playing fields next to the school, a gymnasium, multi-gym, sports hall and indoor heated swimming pool. The school is over-subscribed and receives 2.8 applications for each place.
