Background:
Built in 1824 the building which houses this small school is now a Grade II listed building. St Mark's is the oldest primary school still in its original structure. It is made up of seven classrooms and a multi-purpose hall and is situated between Oval and Vauxhall, adjacent to the Oval cricket ground, and across the Thames from Pimlico, Victoria, and the Tate Gallery. It is next to a very busy main road. The majority of the population are African and Caribbean with 64 per cent having English as their second language.
