Background:

The school is located on St Mary Cray high street, and enjoys good public transport links from the centre of Orpington. The school'sits in its own grounds, and has the benefit of a large recreation ground to the rear of the premises trailing off into natural meadowland. The school has eleven classrooms, a hall, a computer site, playground, field and sports facilities. The school has been built around the original Edwardian building, the site being enlarged and renovated in 1989. The school'still retains the charm and character of the long established village school. The school has a friendly and hard working team, and is committed to staff development through professional training courses which enable all staff to fulfil their roles effectively. The school has clubs and extra-curricular activities: netball, cricket, soccer and multisports, drama and movement, recorders, science and technology and art. The national curriculum requires that children between the ages of 5 and 16 should study the core subjects: English, mathematics, science and information and communication technology and while at Primary school the following foundation subjects: history, geography, design and technology, art, music and physical education, religious education. The school has a well-equipped computer suite. The children are made familiar with information and communication technology (ICT) through use of wide variety of software. The school aims to develop confidence in children, encourage excellence, encourage disciplined behaviour and overcome difficulties in a caring way to the satisfaction of all and place a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy.
