Background:

Established by the Ursuline Order in 1954, ownership of the school passed out of their hands into the care of the Diocese of Brentwood only at the end of 1998. The two-storey building is set in 'pleasant' grounds, comprising a playing field, grassed areas with cultivated borders and two hard-surface playgrounds. The school aims to produce children who are eager to learn and who have high self-esteem, whatever their rate of progress. The 'broad and balanced' curriculum is constantly linked with information technology at Key Stage Two, and supported with educational visits to extend pupils' studies in each subject area. There is a special educational needs support teacher to assist children with learning difficulties, of whom there are an above average number. The physical education curriculum includes outdoor and adventure activities and the school competes in various borough and diocesan competitions. The range of extra-curricular activities encompasses book, pop dance, computer and recorder clubs, as well as various sporting clubs. Children are instilled with a 'love of music', and can receive weekly instrumental tuition. Involvement of parents in the process of education makes the school 'happier and more effective'. The Parents and Friends Association organises fundraising and social events throughout the year.
