Background:

Founded in 1899, moved in 1928 to current building on compact four-acre site just behind Sutton High Street; well-served by bus and rail links to traditional catchment areas in central and northwest Sutton; owns 25 acres of playing fields in Cheam, described as 'one of the best sports grounds in the south of England'. Offers balanced curriculum, with strong results in all subjects. New humanities block opened in December 1996; more recently, new building costing about £3m has provided new technology centre, music centre, new library, and additional science laboratory space; new sports hall and music/drama performance hall in 2005; new canteen in 2006. Sutton encourages participation in sport, music, drama, and debating; flourish Combined Cadet Force. Specialist sports college status. Before-school care, from 8am; after-school care, until 4.30pm; canteen and library open before school; sports hall clubs open from 7.45am. Over-subscribed, with more than six applications per place. DfES achievement award (2001, 2002, 2003).
