Background:
The school was founded in 1685 and the present school was opened in 1977 in its current single-storey 'modern, light and airy' building near London Bridge and Borough tube station in an area of high unemployment. The school's intake is fairly mixed in social background. The school includes French as part of the curriculum; wide range of after-school clubs includes story telling, choir, poetry, games, drama, design technology, art and the recorder. The school has strong links with Southwark Cathedral and St Hugh's, and each year pupils from the school lead two major carol services in Southwark Cathedral. The school also has good business links with the Financial Times, Tesco, Business in the Community, Woman's Weekly, and the Guild of Glaziers. Charity fundraising successes include Comic Relief, British Heart Foundation, and the Tommy Appeal Campaign.
