Background:

Built in 1932 close to Tolworth, the buildings of Tolworth Girls' School have been extended, and now include a new mathematics and light-technology block, a new English block, a media studies studio and a library. The library has open access at all times, and there are also two learning resource centres and three computer rooms. The school'shares a site with facilities including squash courts and a gym. Tolworth also has art, ceramics and textiles studios, a drama and dance workshop, a music suite and a senior student common room, while the science and technology area has benefited from recent government funding. New facilities include photography studio. School raises more than £10,000 a year for range of charities. The school has full enrichment programme, including healthy snacks', self-defence, puppetry. Extensive range of school visits at home and abroad. Part of British Council's Comenius project. All pupils may learn two foreign languages and the full range of humanities subjects. Sports and leisure activities include basketball, tennis, athletics, hockey, football, trampolining and netball. The school has been awarded Specialist Technology College Status; Schools Curriculum Award (2000); Investor in People Status (2002); DfES Achievement Award (2002, 2003); Leading Edge Status (2004); Training School Status (2003).
