Background:

Tower Bridge Primary School is a one-form entry primary school, with a nursery class situated a stone's throw from Tower Bridge and the River Thames. This is an exciting area undergoing major development along the river. The school places a high priority on cultural and sporting activities. Last year the school worked with: The National Theatre; English National Opera; Unicorn Theatre; Carl Campbell Dance Company 7; Archaeological Project; Dance Theatre of Harlem; Fashion and Textile Museum; Afro Caribbean Reading project. During the year its pupils participated in a range of sports including ice-skating, cricket, athletics and basketball. The school has its own learner swimming pool for nursery and Key Stage 1 children. Key Stage 2 children go to the Downside club for swimming. The school has its own mini bus. It has established a 'special relationship' with the Unicorn Theatre, who has received planning permission to build a children's theatre very near to the school, as part of the London Bridge City Development. The children have been involved in the theatre design as well as drama and of course seeing performances. The ethos of the school is based on respect both for the pupils' physical and academic potential, their gender, and their cultural, religious and ethnic background as well as for the rights and aspirations of parents. for the expertise and professionalism of the whole school staff.
