Background:

Warrender School was opened in January 1971. Particular success in sport and the arts. Pupils have the opportunity to begin learning a musical instrument from the age of eight; school orchestra and choir. Many sporting opportunities include football, rounders, athletics and swimming. Proud of pupils' record in English, mathematics, science and ICT. High investment in ICT: new ICT suite (2004) and electronic whiteboards in all classes (2005). Poetry and drama workshops, science week, and whole-school sculpture workshop; educational visits to art galleries, museums, and historic monuments and buildings. Modern foreign language taught with help of local secondary school. The children are encouraged to nominate and raise funds for their own selected charities; carol singing at local senior citziens' luncheon club; talent show for Red Nose Day. The school council meets every few weeks to ensure that pupils have their say in school matters. Over-subscribed, with 1.7 applications per place. DfES achievement award (2002). Ethos: 'A caring and supportive school. We encourage all members of the school community to treat each other with respect. We aim to dev elop children who are confident in themselves, but considerate of the needs of others'.
