Background:

Founded in 1882 in centre of Hendon as independent boarding and day school for girls; pleasant and extensive grounds. All parents are automatically members of the Friends of St Joseph's Association and are urged to become active helpers. The association exists to raise funds to provide additional resource for its children and to create opportunities for parents to come together socially. The work of the association has enabled the school to purchase computers, build an ICT suite, refurbish the library, provide large playground equipment and provide additional materials and equipment for many other curriculum areas. The school also supports a number of charitable organisations during the school year, raising money for the Catholics' Society, The Passage, and Help the Aged, through different events and collections. There are school football and netball teams, recorder groups, orchestra, chess club, French classes, football club, and an after-school club and holiday playscheme. Football team regularly wins championships; Spanish taught as part of curriculum; after-school Italian classes. The school has worked closely with the local health authority, particularly through its involvement with health-promoting schools. After-school care, until 5.30pm. International Schools award. Investor in People status (2005); DfES achievement award (2001, 2002, 2003).
