Background:

There has been a Mary Magdalen's school on site since 1850 and the present school was built in 1958. Located on large plot in a quiet residential area the school is over-subscribed and offers a broad and balanced curriculum. In addition, French and swimming is also taught at the school; 53 children receive specialist teaching in piano and violin. Sports offered at the school include football, tennis, netball and cricket. Extra-curricular clubs, such as netball, football, gardening, swimming, choir, recorder, art and computers are held during and after school. The school aims to provide a 'wrap-around service' for parents incorporating a daily breakfast club established in 2000 with money from the Lottery Grants Commission, and an after-school club run from 3.30pm to 6pm. Strong community links include Barnes Hospital and the local old people's home. 'We have high expectations of the children; we want them to do their best socially, personally, academically and spiritually.'
