Background:

The Latymer School was founded in 1624 and moved half a mile to its current site in 1910, when it became co-educational. The school grounds and buildings are owned by the Latymer Foundation, whose sole purpose is running of the school. The school is on a single site, with extensive playing fields. The Great Hall is able to seat the whole school. The school has laboratories, technology accommodation, and a performing arts block. A new sports hall and dining complex were completed in 2006. The school also owns Ysgol Latymer field centre at Cwm Penmachno in Snowdonia, where all pupils in Years 7 and 9 attend one-week courses in outdoor pursuits. Sixth-formers visit the centre for field courses, and take part in the Fourteen Peaks Challenge. Art students go to New York, and there are musical tours to Europe, in addition to language exchanges. The sports department has had tours to Barbados and Holland; Business Studies students have visited various European cities. The school has music, drama, sports, and a wide range of other extra-curricular activities. Over-subscribed, with 10 applications per place.
