Background:

The school is a Catholic boys college in Nunhead, a traditional school for 11 to 16 years old boys. The school gains exam results above the national average, and this year 54 per cent of its boys achieved five or more A* to C grades at GCSE. Boys do competitive sports with after-school and Saturday matches. The choir and orchestra are successful and musician number over a hundred. Instrumental tuition is free. Art and drama are actively encouraged; they enhance the character of the boys work. Its swimming pool and sports facilities are constantly in use, as are its all weather cricket nets. A new £600,000 science block will move science into a new dimension within the school. Within the local community, boys fund-raise and care for the old and needy. The school is a teacher training college with its own specialist centre and it expects to be granted specialist status in mathematics and ICT in the near future. As a catholic college it aims to create a visibly Christian environment where staff and pupils can with confidence achieve their full potential as human beings intellectually, physically, socially, creatively and spiritually.
