Background:
William Ellis School was established in 1862 at Gospel Oak, was reorganised as a boys' secondary school in 1889 and moved to its present site in 1937. Since then classrooms have been adapted and extended. The school has been fully comprehensive since 1984, having admitted its first mixed ability intake in 1978. The school curriculum at Key Stage 3 includes English, mathematics, sciences, design technology, information technology, French, German or Spanish, music, art, drama, physical education, history, geography, religious education and personal social and health education.
