Background:

Founded in 1615 by Edward Wilson, vicar of Camberwell, as grammar school for sons of parishioners; became voluntary aided after Second World War and moved to Wallington in London Borough of Sutton in 1975; became grant-maintained in 1989; Christian ethos is pervasive. Facilities include extensive playing fields, new sports hall, heated indoor swimming pool, squash courts and extensive all-weather surfaces; owns field study centre in Brecon Beacons National Park. Technology building opened in 1991; new art room and multi-purpose technology rooms opened in 1994; large sixth-form centre opened in 1997. Proud of record in sport, music, drama; Combined Cadet Force; regular skiing trips, sports tours, outdoor pursuits and exchange visits to France and Germany. Regularly scores highly in British Mathematics Olympiads; national success in water polo and football. Athletics and cross-country also 'strong'; six school teams reached national finals in 2000; national champions in under-13 badminton and under-16 water-polo in 2001. Specialist mathematics and computing college status from 2002; large new mathematics, ICT and media centre in April 2005. Regular charity events; £14,000 raised in 2006.
